Joan Hale
Innkeeper
Joan married into the lodge in 2003 and took it over with Peter in 2014. Before that she taught eighth-grade English for twenty-two years, and she still reads more than anyone else in the family. She answers most of the email, knows which tide pools hide which creatures, and keeps the ledger in the same handwritten book Peter's mother started in 1971.
Peter Hale
Caretaker
Peter grew up in the cabin that is now Low & Slow. He fixes whatever needs fixing — and on a place this old, something always does. He chops the wood, clears the drive after storms, and reads at night by the stove. He is almost never on his phone, which is deliberate, and we would appreciate it if you did not try to reach him on one.
Nell Hale
Kitchen
Nell went to culinary school in Montreal and cooked in three restaurants she will not name before coming back in 2022. She runs the kitchen three nights a week — usually something slow, usually whatever was at the market that morning. The other nights she is either out on the water or asleep by nine.
